The performance evaluation indicators for an extruder screw include: plasticization quality, output, specific energy consumption, versatility, and manufacturability.
I. Plasticization Quality
First and foremost, a screw must be capable of producing products that meet quality requirements. Meeting quality requirements means the produced items should possess the specified physical, chemical, mechanical, electrical properties, and appearance quality, among others. Factors such as the temperature of the extruded melt and its uniformity, axial fluctuations, the magnitude of radial temperature differences, the stability of extruded melt pressure, and the uniformity of dispersing colorants and other additives are all significantly related to the screw's plasticization quality.
II. Output
Output refers to the production rate or extrusion rate through a given die head while ensuring plasticization quality. A good screw should have high plasticizing capacity. It is commonly expressed as the mass of material extruded per unit time or per screw revolution (kg/h, or kg/r).
III. Specific Energy Consumption
Specific energy consumption refers to the energy consumed per kilogram of plastic extruded. Higher specific energy consumption indicates that more energy is required to plasticize the material, meaning more heating power is consumed. A high-performance screw should achieve the lowest possible specific energy consumption while guaranteeing plasticization quality.
IV. Versatility
The versatility of a screw refers to its ability to process different plastics, match different dies, and produce different products. Generally speaking, the more versatile a screw is, the lower its plasticization efficiency tends to be. However, an excellent screw should combine broad versatility with high plasticization efficiency. Currently, to improve production efficiency, specialized screws are often used, so the requirement for versatility is not particularly high.

The screw must also be easy to manufacture and have low cost.
